Beach Bum’s Magic Game Room

‘Tis the season for games!

At least it is for me, because I update my “fun” pages on my Cosma website every year around this time (Cosma is a sibling of the New Media Museum).

Of course, the game page is the most fun to do.

I also spruced up my New Media Museum’s Games & Immersion section of the Guide to the Boston area because there is such a high overlap in content.

Here are a couple of articles about why that’s the case.
Five MIT-Developed Video Games that Revolutionized the Industry (Amy Marcott, Slice of MIT)
Boston’s Legacy in Video Game Innovation (Mass Technology Leadership Council)

While I was doing research for upgrading the “history” of games content on both sites, I stumbled upon this awesome article published in 1972 that has a ton of neat history about the game Spacewar and a lot of other “computing” related things as well.

Spacewar: Fanatic Life and Symbolic Death Among the Computer Bums (Stewart Brand, Rolling Stone)

I loved the word “bum” in the title of the article so much, I decided to use it in the title of this new “Web World” that I made to showcase some neat interactive “game” related experiences.

If you can’t see it, or it isn’t working, you can also see it directly on Kuula.

The Web World was “mostly” created for Cosma, but I think it functions as a nice annex for the New Media Museum, too.

Enjoy!

Also, be sure to check out the game page at Cosma and the New Media Museum’s Games & Immersion page — both pages have many links to game related resources.
