Toy Bots

Bot or Not Exercise: Mechanical Robots and Micropets

MicroPets interact with each other, responding to each other’s sounds and actions. They also have voice recognition and can follow commands that are spoken to them. They sing, play and according to Tomy, even get upset when they’re left out. Micropets made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the tiniest, sound activated, self-powered toy.

Collection Notes
1 This collection began as an extension of Mary Hopper’s work teaching robotics to undergraduate education students with Robert Lawler at Purdue University in the early 1990s. The collection was greatly expanded during her later work as Professor of Technology in Education at Lesley University where she (re)developed, mentored and taught the course ECOMP 5018 Introduction to Educational Robotics (2003-2005).
